Overview

Project Z, which is centrally managed, comprises all activities related to the assembly, operation, and maintanance of the common system infrastructure as well as the Nexus testbed and the administrative management. These services are provided to the SFB as a whole.

Nexus Testbed

The Z Project gives all other projects of the SFB the possibility to evaluate and validate their experiences and results in a common system environment (Nexus testbed). The vision of an augmented world through a federated world model is realized on campus whereas project-spanning student work is conducted too.

Models of different levels of detail are created for the outdoor and indoor domain by modeling the campus and the building of the Faculty of Computer Science, Eletrical Engineering and Information Technology and the Smart Factory. The campus is an excellent test area and its infrastrucure forms the basis for different location-based services like navigation and information systems for visitors who visit exhibitions or the open day of the University of Stuttgart.

The world model will be extended gradually to cover also the indoor domain. Different positioning systems with different granularity will be used, and a "smart room" will be equipped with various actuators and sensors. This environment is used to gain experience concerning the interaction of the real world and its model.

Administrative Management

Focus of the administrative management is on co-ordination of all scientific projects as well as organizational tasks of the office and administration of the budget and staff:
